119 South Band History 101 In 2002, The 119 South Band won the WQBE Country Regatta Showdown and earned the opportunity to open the 2002 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta. We also opened for Billy Ray Cyrus in front of a sold-out crowd of 1200 at the Coalfield Jamboree in Logan.
In 2003, The 119 South Band finished second in the region at the Colgate Country Showcase Showdown. The band's lead vocalist, Robbie Bryant, participated in the Nashville Star competition, auditioning in Cleveland and continuing to North Carolina before elimination. The 119 South Band played for a crowd of over 5000 fans when we opened for the Charlie Daniels Band at the Rolling Thunder Raceway. Additionally, we opened for Tracy Byrd, Terri Clark, Marty Stuart and many others at the Coalfield Jamboree.
2004 proved to be a breakout year for the band as we performed for some of the biggest crowds in the State! The 119 South Band opened for Wynonna Judd as part of the Massey Energy Summer Outing 2004 with more than 30,000 fans in attendance. The band then opened for country star Aaron Tippin at Charleston's Fourth of July celebration. The 119 South Band also headlined the WV Freedom Festival, the King Coal Festival, and Ashland KY's Summer Motion.
In 2005, The 119 South Band participated in the West Virginia Fairs and Festivals Convention and were featured in a showcase for the event. We played at several fairs and festivals across the state including the Battelle District Fair, the Magnolia Fair and the Clay District Fair. On May 28th the band participated in WQBE's Rabbit Jam along with Jo Dee Messina, Darryll Worley, Tracy Lawrence and Josh Turner. On July 2nd, we were again featured in the City of Charleston's July Fourth Celebration opening for Terri Clark on the levee in Downtown Charleston. On July 23rd, The 119 South Band participated in the Massey Energy Summer Outing 2005, performing a two separate hour-long sets opening for Ronnie Milsap, Randy Travis, The Temptations and The Four Tops. Over 40,000 fans attended this event.
In 2006, The 119 South Band again played the Massey Energy Summer Outing 2006, opening up for Diamond Rio. The band also opened up for Restless Heart at the War Eagle Coal Company Summer Picnic. War Eagle Coal Company also booked the band to play their employee Christmas Party. On New Year's Eve, The 119 South Band performed at the Charleston Civic Center for the Annual Fireman's Ball.
In 2007, The 119 South Band appeared at the Greasy Pig Festival at Omar, WV. We opened for John Michael Montgomery in Charleston for the Appalachian Power Lineman's Rodeo. We played the WV Freedom Festival in Logan, the City of Chapmanville's 60th Anniversary Celebration, the 2007 Logan County Arts & Crafts Fair, the Pendleton County Fair in Circleville, the Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival and opened for Mark Chesnutt at the Coalfield Jamboree in Logan. We closed out the year with a New Year's Eve gig at the Earl Ray Tomblin Convention Center at Chief Logan State Park!
